Sarah & Matt

A Real Wedding at Poco Diablo

How did you two meet or how did you propose?: Matt and I met in September of 2012 through a mutual friend when we lived in Prescott Arizona, and started dating a month later. He proposed in August of 2014 in Seattle Washington. He was doing an internship at the time with Boeing and I was still in Prescott. He got offered a job, so he stayed on as an intern until his graduation in the fall. I came up to visit him for a week and do some site seeing. We spent one day in downtown Seattle which started out in Alki beach, which is a little park that has a perfect view of the Seattle skyline. We sat and enjoyed the view, talking about our future here in Washington and finally he gets down on one knee and proposes! We spent the rest of the day touring downtown Seattle.

Were you happy with the venue?: We were both very happy with the venue! Poco Diablo is a beautiful resort, with even more beautiful views. The staff was all really helpful, and made things so easy for us. It was the first and only venue we toured, because it just fit!

Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: Blue is my favorite color, and I believe that navy blue looks good on anyone. In the spirit of incorporating the season I used fall colors, which happened to go very well with the navy blue :) The table settings also incorporated fall colors, with a couple little votives filled with flowers at each table and a box filled with red decorative rocks holding the table number; the box also had a red tea light in it. The venue provided mirror plates to put them all on.

What piece of advice would you give other couples planning their big day?: Don’t go do-it-yourself crazy! I had big plans (thanks to pinterest) for how I was going to make and decorate all of these decorations for our wedding. I still have a couple hat boxes and fabric (meant to create a card holder) just lying around! Planning your wedding gets you super excited to bring out your creative side, but I would stick to DIY-ing just a few things. It’ll save you a lot of stress!

Tell us about your photographer. Why did you choose this photographer?: I attended a bridal expo in Sedona (at Poco Diablo actually!) with my mom and one of my bridesmaids. We saw quite a few photographers there, but Connie and Steve really stood out. It’s important that you feel comfortable with your photographers, since you will be sharing your big day with them, and these two fit the bill! As soon as we started talking to them it felt completely normal, as if we already knew them.
