A real Wedding at Old Main - ASU

How did you two meet or how did you propose?: We met at ASU while pursuing our undergraduate degrees. We started dating in the spring of 2006 and he proposed in the spring of 2013 while I was on a trip with friends in South Carolina.

How did you find your venue? Were you happy with it?: My mom suggested we get married at ASU as we're a big Sun Devil family -- my husband and I met at ASU, my parents met at ASU, and my sister and cousins all went to ASU. We got married in The Secret Garden, had our cocktail reception on Old Main Lawn (where the ASU Pitchforks sang!) and danced the night away in Carson Ballroom. Our venue was very representative of us as a couple - we loved it.

Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: We wanted to incorporate some of my husband's South Dakota roots in our decor, so we used barn wood from his family farm (est. 1896) for directional signs. Additionally, his father gathered antique blue mason jars from across South Dakota for our center pieces. We also prepared personalized handwritten thank you notes for each guest, and had them waiting at their seat when they entered the ballroom. We wanted our friends and family to know what they meant to us and how grateful we were that they traveled from near and far to celebrate our big day.

What piece of advice would you give other couples planning their big day?: You can never show too much appreciation for those that make your big day possible. So many loved ones played a huge role in making our wedding weekend everything we could have hoped for - especially my parents, who went above and beyond to give us a day we'll treasure forever.
