Cover Release! Nature’s Elements at JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa

Arizona Wedding Magazine – JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa Cover

While many wedding designers start out with a single point of inspiration, Alicia Armijo of J. Starr Wedding Company was lucky enough to have four of them as she styled this Arizona wedding photoshoot at the JW Marriott Phoenix Desert Ridge Resort & Spa. That’s because the resort distinctively celebrates the four elements of nature – fire, water, earth and sky.

ELEMENTAL COLORS.

To honor these natural elements, Alicia chose a color palette of orange and copper to represent fire along with shades of blue to reflect the water and sky. She and Deidre Laskoskie of dei-zinz fresh floral studio also added in plenty of greenery to pay tribute to the earth and complement the resort’s incredibly lush grounds.

GOING WITH THE GLOW.

For the ceremony site, Alicia set gleaming copper X-back chairs from Glamour & Woods in circular rows on the resort’s stunning outdoor venue, the Isle of Capri. They were the perfect complement to the copper lettering and wax stamp on the watercolor-inspired invitation suite by Copper Cactus Company. The glimmer of copper appears again on the chargers and flatware on the tablescape. And the glassware and velvet sofa glow with a beautiful, fiery orange.

ARTISTIC ARRANGEMENTS FOR AN ARIZONA WEDDING.

When Deidre noticed that the resort uses pampas grass in its landscaping, she decided to incorporate this attention-getting ornamental grass into her big, bold arrangements and stunning circular backdrop at the ceremony site. She also included blooms such as Pink Mink Protea, fuchsia peonies, Quicksand roses, and burgundy dahlias along with Italian Ruscus and eucalyptus to create a wild, but elegant boho feel. Then she adorned the arches of the bridge leading to the Isle of Capri with even more Italian Ruscus and pampas grass.

TRIPLE TREATS.

Why have just one wedding cake when you can have three? The resort’s talented pastry team expertly showcased the fire and water themes on three different creations. We love every detail, like the gorgeous copper fondant, the painted copper shadows, and the beautiful watercolor effects. You can almost see the water flowing!

BLISSFULLY BOHO.

Alicia created a modern boho look for our bride by choosing a gown, hair, and makeup that were simply natural. And our groom’s attire — a sharply tailored dark blue suit — ties in perfectly to the water theme. Alicia and Deidre definitely showed us how four very different elements of nature can peacefully coexist in one dazzling wedding design.
