Real Wedding Inspired by February's Birthstone

1. How did you two meet or what was the proposal like?: Wade and I met about 5 years ago the same way I feel like a lot of people are meeting these days... on Instagram (haha). He slid into my DM's, but it took several tries before I responded back. A couple of weeks later we actually met in person. A group of my friends were going out for my birthday and I invited him to meet us there. We had an immediate connection and from the very beginning I could see it growing into a strong, life lasting relationship. The proposal was exactly how I had always imagined it. It was a moment with just Wade and me; I had always told him I didn't want a crowd! We were actually long distance at the time, so I definitely wasn't expecting anything (I didn't even have my nails done!) I had just gotten home from dance practice (I danced for an NBA team at the time) and to my surprise, Wade had set up the apartment with candles and rose petals everywhere, dim lighting and all. Next thing I know, Wade comes from around the corner and drops down on one knee!

2. Were you happy with the venue/location?: The venue and location was a DREAM! We were very happy with it. The sunset, the mountains, the desert... it was all so perfect.

3. Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: We got married in February, which has a birthstone of amethyst, so I wanted to incorporate amethyst into our table decor and overall vibe. Therefore, I chose the color purple for my bridesmaid dresses and accent colors for the groomsmen. We kept it very simple for our table setting since our venue was located in the middle of the desert and it was outside, we really didn't need anything fancy on the tables. I chose to do some simple flowers in the centerpiece surrounded by cracked geodes. We did gold charger plates and the guest name hand printed on an agate slice in gold calligraphy.

4. What piece of advice would you give other couples planning their big day? I think the main piece of advice I would give couples planning their big day would definitely be to stay organized. I created excel spreadsheets for EVERYTHING, budget, packing list, etc. I constantly was editing my to-do list and I think it was what got me through! I planned my wedding myself because I love planning events and I even have some wedding planning background, so I felt comfortable doing so. But, it still got overwhelming and stressful at times, so staying organized and on top of everything is going to help so much! Good luck and have so much fun! It flies by!
