Sabrina & Chad

A Real Wedding at the JW Marriott Desert Ridge Resort & Spa

1. How did you two meet: My husband and I met at a JW Marriott in San Antonio, Texas. We were both there for a work conference. Chad and I kept randomly running into each other, although he will not admit that but I think he had a lot to do with it. The work conference was 3 days long and we saw each other the first night at the welcome reception. I walked into the room with my coworker and client and off to the right was a group of 4 guys and one of them was Chad. I remember seeing him and not really thinking anything of it. Later that night we crossed paths in the bar and we both smiled at the other and he stared maybe a little bit longer than I did (although he will not admit it). He was quite intrigued with who I was and why I was there. The second day of the conference, we both were in the general session meeting but sitting in different places. When I walked back in to the meeting I saw he was talking to a mutual acquaintance, Marilyn and I said hello to her and then found my seat a few rows up. I noticed Chad looked and me but I didn’t think anything of it. I did notice that he kept walking up and down the aisle from his seat and looking at me but not saying anything. He may or may not have actually caught me looking at him; I will never admit it though. It wasn’t until later that evening when we received a conference gift of a cowboy hat and were supposed to wait in line for it to be sized and me being very impatient decided to cut the line. It must have been fate because there he was right in front of the line I cut into to. I sweetly smiled at him he said it was that devilish grin that I give when I am about to do something I am not supposed to do. I had my hat sized and went on my way. It was not until towards the end of the night that somehow he managed to be standing at the table right in front of the table I was sitting at. Happy coincidence…I think not! I may or may not have had what they call a little liquid courage and I went up to him and said “Hi! You are Chad Norris right? I hear your reputation precedes you.” That was the first conversation of a lifetime of conversations we will have.

2. How did he propose?: The proposal was on 12/13/14 and the day started off kind of busy. Chad had mentioned that we needed to get up early and go run a bunch of errands for the day. So he mentioned to me that I had wanted to get a manicure and pedicure for a while and that we needed to go do that. Afterwards, we would run to the mall and to Costco for some grocery shopping. After all the errands, we would also go Christmas tree shopping. So we ended up running all the errands and then found out that we also had an impromptu dinner at my parents that evening. So Chad dropped me off at my parents’ house to help while he had to run to the store. He also said when he would come back; we needed to go look for a Christmas tree. By the time he came back it was raining and I didn’t feel like going and asked if we could go the next day and he said we had to go right then and there. After some convincing, we decided to go and as we are driving I am watching the rain pour down and then we arrive at the tree lot. We are looking around for a tree and Chad calls my name from across the lot to come see him because he found our tree. As I walk down the row all of a sudden, a tree lights up and there is a silver bag hanging from a limb. He tells me the bag is for me and I should open it up. As I look up from seeing the ring in the bag, Chad is down on one knee and asks me to marry him.

3. Were you happy with the venue?: We absolutely loved the venue and couldn’t be happier. The ballroom and the terrace were beautiful. Our ceremony location had the Arizona mountains and made for a beautiful, scenic backdrop for our photos and video. Natalie and the onsite wedding planner were very accommodating and were very easy to work with. The planning and wedding could not have gone any smoother.

4. Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: The theme for our wedding was old Hollywood, romantic, elegant, classy and lace. The theme was created around my wedding dress. My color palette was aubergine, blush, gold, champagne, and ivory. We wanted the wedding to be intimate and romantic with lighting and lots of candles. My favorite part about our table setting was our linens. I absolutely loved the blush and ivory lace linens from La Tavola. The linens definitely set the tone for our wedding and made our tables look absolutely stunning.

5. What piece of advice would you give other brides planning their big day: Wedding planning can be extremely overwhelming and stressful so take it day to day and focus on one task at a time. Do not be afraid to speak up and give your opinion on what you truly want. Everyone always has an opinion and ideas but keep in mind this is about you and your significant other and do what feels right to you.
