How did you two meet or how did he propose?: Vernon and I met through mutual friends. I have two young children and Vernon wanted to incorporate them into the proposal. It was one of our family nights in- he cooked dinner and we anticipated playing games and watching a movie. He made delicious chicken parm and was hand dipping strawberries in chocolate. When dinner was over the kids were eager for dessert and he says “let Mommy pick the first strawberry…” I hear my daughter shout “oh my God!” and when I turn around, hes on one knee, plate of chocolate dipped strawberries in hand and the ring is in the middle. He tells the kids and I he loves us and wants us to be a family forever.
Were you happy with the venue?: Beyond happy! The Highlands at Dove Mountain was not only perfect for us, but the exceptional service from Claudette and Katrina from start to finish was bar-none.
Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception: We wanted a timeless and classic theme: Black & Ivory with hints of gold. Our table settings had ivory linens, black cloth napkins, gold chargers and we alternated each table with either a high floral centerpiece or a shorter one.
What piece of advice would you give other brides planning their big day? Choose a venue wisely, one that you get an amazing vibe from the place and site coordinators the minute you meet them because they determine how your vision is executed. Enjoy planning every detail and truly have fun with it. Once the big day arrives, it goes by like a whirlwind and you want to be able to say it was everything and more… like we were.
