How did he propose?
The engagement was not necessarily a huge shock after 4 years of dating, but it definitely was exciting! Previously, for our one year anniversary we went down to the Monterey Bay Aquarium, took the 17-Mile Drive, listened to Jack Johnson the whole way, carved our names in a fence, and ate dinner in Carmel that evening. So just over three years later to celebrate our four year anniversary, the two of us went back to Monterey and Carmel, only this time the trip was a little different. What I did not know is that Matt drove down the weekend prior to re-carve both of our names in a fence along the 17-Mile Drive. So this time after spending the day in Monterey and taking the 17-Mile Drive, one of stops on the drive had a special surprise. As soon as I saw the carved names, I could tell they were freshly carved and I was extremely confused. At that point Matt dropped to a knee, proposed, and once again the rest is history!
Tell us about your venue:
I would highly recommend Troon North Golf Club as a wedding venue because not only is the site beautiful, but the staff is truly one of a kind! They made the wedding seem effortless. The bridal suite is amazing and decorated to be almost magical. The rooms multiplicity of mirrors coupled with the rendering of “Here Comes the Bride” upon the predominant wall really added that unique touch. As I put on my wedding dress with my Mom helping zip me up, I never felt more beautiful in my entire life than I did at the moment! The cocktail hour was on the deck that overlooked the entire Valley of the Sun and everyone got to celebrate and embrace how beautiful the desert really is.
Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception.
The dining room had beautiful purple uplights and was mostly lit by tall standing candelabras and floating candle centerpieces. On each side of the dance floor were 8 tables, each decorated uniquely with different floral and candle arrangements. We chose cream colored roses and combination colored roses that made it look elegant and kept the focus on the beautiful candles. Each place setting had silver chargers, a menu card that Matt designed that was sewed with a little piece of lace to match my bridal bouquet, and a wine glass gift box. Our entire family helped to make placecard holders that were made with wine corks collected from the bridal party and family. My favorite hobby is to make scrapbooks, so we asked our guests to make their own scrapbook page. We had decorative paper, cut-outs in the shape of hearts, and a Mad Lib game for our guests to give advice to the newlyweds. It has been so much fun looking through the scrapbook and reading what everyone wrote.
