How did you two meet or how did you propose?:
Met: We met on Match.com but ironically Katie's best friend of 6 years had been Jenny's cousin without even knowing. We talked and texted nonstop for a week before meeting at Bar Louie in Tempe and have been inseparable since.

Proposal: Katie proposed on Jenny's 27th birthday weekend after over a year together by taking Jenny to one of their favorite resorts, The Sheraton Wild Horse Pass, for a staycation. They were playing card games in the room before hitting the casino poker room and Katie suggested they put together a mystery puzzle she had bought online where you don't know what the picture is and you have to find your way by putting it together as a team. The puzzle said it all. Katie then pulled out a diamond ring and asked Jenny to spend forever with her...and she said YES!

How did you find your venue? Were you happy with it?:
We searched online for LGBT-friendly wedding venues and came across The Palomar and fell in love with the hotel and all it had to offer. It was stunning, convenient, LGBT-friendly and the staff was amazing from day one. We were beyond happy with our venue choice. We would recommend it to everyone getting married.

Describe the theme or color scheme of your wedding, and what you chose for your table setting at the reception:
We didn't have a wedding theme. Our color scheme was light gray and coral. Our table setting was DIY simple. We had 3 different sized vases filled with water and clear marbles on the bottom with coral flowers inside and an ivory floating candle. We had tea light candles surrounding the vases and as a wedding favor we had a clear box with mints inside tied with a gray ribbon and a coral label that read "Mint to Be" and our names and wedding date.

What piece of advice would you give other couples planning their big day?:

  • Make a budget and stick to it
  • Prioritize what means the most to you and spend the larger amounts of money on that (for us it was the venue/food and photographer)
  • You don't have to have a wedding planner, planning a wedding is do-able with friends and family helping
  • A lot can be done DIY to save money (Pinterest is great for that)
  • Having a pre-published wedding checklist is a must, including a timeline for when things are due
  • Don't spend a lot of money on invitations
  • Don't assume a percentage of people wont show up to the wedding. If you can't afford the headcount you end with then cut the guest list in case everyone wants to come to your fabulous event
  • On the actual day make sure you delegate to your bridesmaids/friends/family so you are not tasked with anything but enjoying the entire day
  • Know that not everything is going to be perfect but do not stress, it will still be the perfect day
