Inspiration for your wedding can come from so many places. Maybe you’ll start with a favorite color or flower. Or you might be inspired by a place you visited together or your family’s ethnic heritage. Sometimes it can even be an item that simply catches your eye—a beautiful piece of fabric or a design detail from your venue. If you keep your eyes—and heart—open, inspiration is virtually everywhere you look.

A good place to start is by flipping through bridal magazines and clipping out any photos that grab your attention. We’ve included plenty of ideas in this issue to inspire you. Keep your favorites in one file, and before long, you’ll see a theme magically start to form from these seemingly unrelated images. A color palette might start to emerge, or it may be an overall look like “Hollywood Glam” or “Country Chic” that speaks to your heart. Many brides like to organize their favorite images on an “inspiration board” that they can share with their wedding vendors to make it easier to communicate their ideas.

Once you pick your theme, it’s all the little details that will make the difference and set your special day apart from every other bride’s. As you make each decision, whether it involves your flowers, table décor, cake design or another detail, do a quick “reality check” to make sure it fits your theme. If, for example, your theme is “Vintage Victorian,” you won’t want to pick a contemporary design and font for your invitations. Or, if your theme is “Tuscan Romance,” you’ll probably want to choose a color palette with warm, sun-drenched tones instead of pinks and purples.

Finally, try to look at your wedding plans through your guests’ eyes. What will delight and maybe even surprise them? Will it be your dramatic floral arrangements?  Your uniquely personal table favors? Your thoughtful display of your parents’ and grandparents’ wedding photos? Or maybe it’s something as simple as your cleverly named signature cocktail. Whatever it is, the delight is in the details, and the choices are all yours.
